Anita Lobel was born on June 3, 1934 in Krakow, Poland. Her nanny Niania called her by her full name of Anita Lobel Nee Kempler. When she was 5 years old World War 2 was just beginning. Anita, her brother, and their nanny had to survive hiding from the Nazi's for many brutal years. Then one day Anita and her brother were sent away to a concentration camp in Germany, and rescued in 1945. They were able to be reunite with their parents in 1947.
After all that Anita has been through she wrote a book called No Pretty Pictures, sharing her story of what she had experienced during the Holocaust, with everything she can remember. Not to long after that the book was published, it won a few awards which made her write more. Some other stories Anita has written were, A New Coat For Anna, This Quiet Lady, Alison's Zinnia, On Market Street, One Lighthouse, and One Moon.
Anita is a Polish American who graduated from high school with a B.F.A in fine arts from Pratt Institute. Pratt Institute is a private art college. Anita went there for textile designer, painter, and to illustrate books for children.
